influence of hook worms on autoimmune disorders was created by GregP
I have had ITP for about 2 months&am just tapering the prednisalone dosage.I'm not too confident of the long term efficacy of the various drug treatments. Has anyone investigated "helminthic therapy" for ITP ? This involves the "hosting" of small numbers of intestinal parasites,e.g. hookworms, in an attempt to moderate the immune response. Please reasearch this on the web if you think it sounds ridiculous. It is included within the "hygiene hypothesis"
I live in far north queensland australia ,does anyone else useing the forum live in this area?

I've heard of it, but am not convinced enough to even consider it. Not to mention the fact that it would totally freak me out.

Oh Greg, please be careful, the mere thought of having hookworms scares me. There are quite a few Auzzies on here as well as Stebbo has a live weekly chat on the forum check it out.

This was on "House" last night. Crohn's, bleeding, etc., and parents who had raised him "too clean." I guessed it early, for a change. They cured it all with helminths. It's been discussed on here (old forum) a few times, but I think it's scary to think of taking a "dose" of a living thing that can increase itself in your system. Not to mention gross and hard to explain to someone who finds out you have worms and wants to distance themselves from you.
