Does anyone know of possible ITP issues with use of Manuka Honey? I had an acute ITP reaction to use of 4 tablets of Cipro one year ago. My platelets are fine now after several months on Prednisone. I want to keep them that way! Would like to try Manuka Honey as an antibiotic replacement if I need it. So far I am allergic to Penicillin, Sulfa and now Cipro (fluoroquinolones).

The sugar in honey is pure fructose which would give me the runs (I have fructose malabsorption). The runs gives me an auto-immune reaction which lowers my platelets. If honey doesn't upset your insides, then I don't think it is any problem for ITP.

Have you looked into Oil of Oregano?

With either of these, are you worried about killing good gut bacteria?

There are so many good natural antibiotics. Oil of oregano is really powerful. There is also silver hydrosol (known as the world's oldest antibiotic), golden seal, neem, garlic, Oregon grape, etc. Get to know them! As more super bugs proliferate, and pharm antibiotics stop working, these will become more and more important!
