What worked for my dad

I posted a few times here early this year when my Dad had platelet counts bouncing between 1 and 3. Making a long story short, he remained at those counts for a few months and the medical community said there was no chance of recovery without removing his spleen, which in light of the side effects and slim chance of success, Dad wasn't willing to do.

We have some friends who have been telling us for years about a chiropractor they go to with great success whenever they have any physical issue. The guy uses "Contact Reflex Analysis," or CRA, to diagnose what toxins or deficiencies are present in the patient's body, and prescribes dietary recommendations and natural, herb and food-based supplements in therapeutic (i.e., large) doses to correct the problems.

Dad went to see this doctor who put him on a three-week cleanse, then three weeks of some kind of supplement that repaired his spleen. As expected, there was no change in platelets during the cleanse, but within three days of beginning the spleen treatment, Dad's platelets were up to 42. In two weeks, they were 125. A month after ending the supplements, his platelets were in the normal range and he has more energy and feels better than he has for years.

Bear in mind that Dad had several treatments during his five weeks in the hospital, including two treatments of IVIG, with absolutely no effect. His oncologist said he'd never seen anyone recover from such a case without having their spleen removed, and even then not all the time.

The CRA doctor Dad went to see was Dr. Sam TurBeek in Galesburg, Illinois. He charges $150 for the initial appointment, with free follow-up visits if you also purchase the supplements from his office (which he sells for less than we could find them for online). It cost Dad around $1,000 for the entire course of treatment.

Of course, Dr. TurBeek isn't the only CRA practitioner around; there are quite a few, and frankly, I'm sure some are quacks. But Dr. TurBeek really helped my dad, and although I was skeptical of his methods at first, it's hard to argue with success.

I am glad that your Dad is in remission with good counts. I am a huge skeptic when it comes to herbal supplements but realize that it's not impossible. I don't understand how a 'clean spleen' would make a difference, but again, anything is possible.

People can and do recover without spleen removal, so that doesn't surprise me as much as it surprised the doctor. Whatever did it, I hope it lasts! Thanks for sharing his story.

I don't know if it was the heart of my immune system, but I do wish I had it today.

Great.....now I have a mental image of a muscular bald guy with one earring scrubbing my spleen.

I am unsure of how clean mine is, but I do vent it now and then. :whistle:

Holisically and Naturopathically, perhaps. But scientifically, I don't see it. As I said, I guess anything is possible but I haven't heard enough success stories to get excited about it. I'm not against anyone trying anything and it's sure better to attempt to clean it than it is to remove it as long as no harm is done.

I'm curious what the supplements were that cleaned the spleen?

Matthew I'm delighted your Dad is doing so well!

It wasn't actually cleaning the spleen. Dad was prescribed an overall "cleanse" to remove "toxins" from his body. After the cleanse, he took large doses of Standard Process Spleen PMG with the purpose of repairing his spleen. So the cleanse was for his whole body, preparatory to fixing the specific problem with his spleen.

The medical paradigm used in this treatment was completely different from anything I've ever encountered before. Dr. TerBeek and his colleagues believe that most doctors only treat symptoms, whereas the actual causes of disease and other physical issues are toxins and nutritional deficiencies in the body. The toxins are broadly classified into groups such as fungus, strep, etc., and there are several varieties of each. The combinations interact differently, or gather in different areas, to cause different medical conditions. Removing the toxins and replenishing deficiencies fixes the underlying causes, and thus the symptoms.

One example he used when explaining it to me is smoking and cancer. He said cancer, regardless of type, is caused by having certain types of fungus in your body. Smoking, he said, is dumb for many reasons, but it doesn't cause cancer. Rather, it creates an environment in which certain types of fungus can proliferate - provided the fungus is in the patient's body to begin with. He says this is why some people who don't smoke still get cancer, and some people who chain smoke all their lives never get it. The cancer is caused by fungus, which in turn can be affected by environmental or lifestyle factors. But unless the fungus is removed, it will eventually cause cancer. (Smoking of course being just one example of outside factors that are known to "cause cancer," when, according to Dr. TerBeek, the correct thing to say is that they are favorable to fungus growth.)

And so on and so forth, for pretty much anything that can go wrong with your body. Identify and remove the toxins, he claims, and you can cure virtually anything.

Honestly, a lot of this is hard for me to swallow. But it's hard to argue with success, and Dr. TerBeek's treatment worked for my Dad when nothing the medical establishment could offer did.

My understanding, from knowing some people who have had it removed, is that they get sick easily and have to be on a strong regimen of yearly shots and immune support.

That's not been my experience at all. 20 years without a spleen this month. In fact I have not noticed any difference with and without (other than the splenectomy helped me get off of the Pred 20 years ago). Long term I am still worried about infection risk, but so far I have not seen an issue. Do I get sick more easily (colds, viral etc.)? I doubt it.

Being spleenless doesn't normally cause a person to get colds, etc more often or more easily. It can cause an infection to spread rapidly without the ability to fight it.

As for body cleanses, I'm out to lunch on it. I believe that it may be possible, but there are too many scams that ruin it's reputation. How on earth would anyone know if they are putting their money and faith into something reputable? I guess you find out if you have improvement, like Matthew's Dad. Good outcomes are so rare that I have a hard time having faith in it myself.
