And what is Shen Xue ling?

I did find this but it makes no sense to me
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2054887

No matter how I put it in nothing comes up on it.

When did you have Rituxan - what is your count?

This is a very cool find (both of you!)

Stem cells in marrow --> megakaryocyte progenitors --> megakaryocytes --> platelets

The article is stating that they cultured megakaryocte progenitors cells from various donors.
ITP donors' cells grew poorly. SXL added to cultured caused the cells to culture better.

The results suggested that SXL might inhibit the antiplatelet antibodies, facilitate reproduction, division and maturity of CFU-meg.

[CFU-meg are the megakarypcyte progenitors.]

In other words, this stuff helps grow platelets, perhaps by inhibiting antibodies, at least in a test tube.

Is this SXL stuff an herbal?

Can't find much, and translation into english is problematic.

There is or has been a clinical study published in Japan, but they want $15 to read the article.

The paper is free on the internet.
Do you have the url for the paper? I'm just curious - I have no problem with Chinese medicine as long as it won't lower my platelets :)

I'm not sure how IVIg works, but hadn't heard of it as 40mg. Do you get the infusions at a hospital? What is your platelet count?

Thanks Rob, I couldn't find anything on it except what I put above.

Rob and everybody,
Sometimes your public library will be able to get you an article that you'd have to pay for, for free.

It is IVIG only. IVIG is taken 1-2mg per kg body weight. So I am taking 40 mg of IVIG( less dose)

Here it is in chinese:

申雪玲
and immune thrombocytopenic purpura is 免疫性血小板减少性紫癜

Google can search on chinese characters. Then use google translate to read article.
I still couldn't find anything useful.
That would have been awesome if it worked!

I did that just for you, Erica. I owed you for teaching me the expression google fu.

Go to translate.google.com/ and do from English to Chinese.

Then cut and paste the result.

没有洋葱,请 is no onions please. But for all I know it means extra ketchup.

I didn't know googlewhacking by that name, but of course now I do!

If thrombocytopenic aardvark gets 12,700 hits, I think the game is hopelessly difficult.

Jeffrey,

Is there anything you haven't done - if so I am sure the list is short. It is very enjoyable to read of your adventures - some of us have to live thru others you know ;)
