Before Stopping Prednisone, We started Vitamin K. We bought 100 tabs for under $7.00 & have her take it everyday. Its been 90 days, No prednisone. 90 Days on Vitamin K. & Zero purpura.

Well, what are her counts? That has a lot to do with it.

I tried Vitamin K once. It didn't do a thing. You also have to be careful with it because some people with ITP are prone to blood clots, and taking K can increase that risk. If you have low counts, you should avoid Vitamin E since it can increase bleeding, so Vitamins can sometimes do harm if used excessively.

I have been confused about Vitamin K. I thought foods rich in Vitamin K generally reduced one's risk of blood clots--unless one was on coumadin (warfarin) or another blood-thinner--in which case they acted differently. I had a terrible time regulating the thickness of my blood when I was on warfarin after my knee replacement--I eat a lot of greens and just wasn't able to calculate how much to eat each day to keep my levels even. (My doctor had me discontinue the warfarin before the RX ran out.)
