Very often, when I speak to different people about the same count they somehow interpret the results differently. So one person may say 12 and another 15, only ever a small difference so I never bother to question it. But such a difference between 2 blood tests - how bizarre!

How are you feeling? Any symptoms?

Lowest count 1. Highest count 207 (ivig) Indium scan showed predominantly splenic destruction. No meds currently, just seeing how things go.

Amber,
There is the possibility that your platelets went up after the first draw. That happened to me one time. Platelets went from 12K to 33K in the same day. Hope you are feeling okay.

Jeffrey,
How are you doing? Are you currently on any meds for your ITP? Hope you are feeling better, too.

Amber,

I thing a little stern questioning is in order, but your counts could have varied for who knows what reason. I was just getting ready to ask you how you are doing! Tell you what, you say they were 13k and I will swear to it! LOL You keep the faith girl. It does seem you may be on the up swing.

DeeDee I had IVIG before my knee surgery last month but it did not push things up like the first one did and I got sicker that anything with it. It was not pleasant for 3 days. but it got me through the surgery. I am not on anything else. I told my oncologist that I was not going to treat just to be treating, there has to be a reason. I am having some issues now. Blood blisters in the mouth, blood in the mouth in the morning, a butterfly rash on my face, blue finger tips last night when I was cold, I am always cold! LOL I am bruising and I have low grade headaches that come and go. I am probably close to needing to go to the hospital, but I as I said on another post I will not go until I have to! I am back to training hard again and I feel good, tired and sore from the RA, but I push through it and make myself do it. I will not surrender. I am bullheaded! LOL

How are you DeeDee?

Amber,

Hope you are doing better today; and, hopefully, those platelets don't drop!

Jeffrey: I am like you. I am doing fine right now (in remission), but I've never lasted over 4 years. And when I crash--I crash really hard and then my platelets don't want to budge (they stay 1-4). I, too, had lots of IVIG and didn't feel too well after having it. The last time I relapsed, I had it 5 times and my platelets wouldn't budge. Finally, the doctor gave it to me over a 24-hour period, and this did the trick. I've decided if and when I crash again, I am going to be very careful about taking any meds--I may not even treat. What I found for myself that within 2 weeks after crashing, if I take good care of myself (good rest and food), the symptoms start to go away--but it does take about 2 weeks. And, even with my platelets under 10k. I am the type of person who doesn't do well with a lot of meds--in long term I sometimes end up sicker. But, I did do the Decadron pulses which might have put into remission (at first, steroids and Decadron wasn't working). Even the doctor isn't sure! And, I continue to swim and run which makes me feel better (and I love riding horses!). My hemo said I am the only patient he has had like myself. LOL

It's not unusual for platelet counts to vary with two different draws. Platelets fluctuate and analyzers are calibrated differently.
