I do promacta vs nplate and have never done the rituxan. So far the new treatments to increase production (NPlate, Promacta) are maintenance meds that you have to keep taking. I noticed very mild heartburn the first week, then no issues. I am diligent about the empty stomach and 4 hours before calcium and vitamins as recommended. Very few have been able to stop them once they start. I chose the Promacta since it is a daily pill that accommodates my schedule better then weekly injections for NPlate. Rituxan is a course of typically 4 infusions that work on B Cells to reset the immunity in the simplest terms. It can take up to 12 weeks to see improvements. Both have potential risks, you can find a lot more information on the main site under treatments.

It's just a good thing to know because too many people go into it thinking it's something they will have to do for the rest of their life. "The rest of your life" is a heck of a long time and as far as ITP goes, anything can happen between now and then (as this study shows)!
