Danazol- anyone have experience? was created by poseymint
Hi all- Anyone have a story to tell about Danazol? I've searched around the forum and see that some take it with prednisone. Couldn't find many details though. I'm curious about did it work, for how long, what were the side effects? Did you die from it?- seriously reading these side effects are scarey!

I've been on a low dosage 7.5mg prednisone for tooo long and have got to get off. Even this low dose is not safe. I have some bone loss and may have other problems from pred.

Hemo suggests trying Winroh, Danazol. I've tried Rituxin, Promacta, dexy- they haven't worked for me. Keeping my spleen for now.

I've been living with low platelets and seem fine- I hover around 9K-18K. Illness or vaccine will make the counts drop. As I look back over the past 3 years of treatment.. it probably would have been better to not have done anything. just watchful waiting. I don't regret exploring the treatments, but just want to support those who are not treating and those living with low platelets. Its a valid option for some people.

to good health! - p

My husband has been taking Danazol for several months. Previously he had Nplate for about three years, but had increasingly bothersome side effects of headaches and dizziness, even though his platelet count was fine. They tried the dexamethasone blast once and he couldn't stand it so then he was on just prednisone. The Danazol was added several months ago, 500 mg twice a day, then he was able to get off the prednisone. Now he takes just one Danazol a day, no prednisone, and so far has been staying at 30,000+. He has not had any side effects from it.

He's had ITP for 29 years (he's now 79 yrs.old) and had a splenectomy back then. The splenectomy was successful for quite a while, but his platelets gradually drifted down. We thought Nplate was great at first and he was able to have the lowest dose, but the side effects kept getting worse.

I think he'll be on Danazol for the foreseeable future. It's a lot more expensive than Nplate which Medicare covered.

I have been taking danazol for over a month with predison no side effects just weight gain and acne but that's with all these meds. I even asked the doc abut taking them together and they said it was fine. Hope this helps.

It's better for men than women as it is basically a male hormone. Masculinisation is a possible side effect. If a woman gets that they must stop as it can be irreversible.
