itch? was created by Alice
Diagnosed with ITP in 2002. Platelets 9. Had 4 Rituxan infusions in 2003. Platelets up over 56 so OK until 2008. Platelets under 20. 4 Rituxan infusions. Platelets up over 56 so OK. May, 2012 platelets at 11. Rituxan 2 infusions... Had some itchy spots on my ankles... like bug bites but constant itch. Rituxan 3rd infusion... No itch. Rituxan, 4th infusion... 10 days later same itchy spots on ankles, then on arms, shoulder, back, waist, chest.I counted about 6 little raised red spots on each arm... 10 or so on each leg. Etc. Felt nearly shocky. Took Benadryl. No itch releif. Took Atarak. Zombie but relief. Itch lasted 2 days. I'm on the third day. I know it sounds like bug bites but not mosquitoes. Has anyone heard of this kind of reaction? To what? To Rituxan?

Rituxan can cause hives but that doesn't sound like hives. Any other bugs around?

thanks for the reply Sandi. No bugs.. My post about itching was in June. It is July 17 and I am itching again. Not horrible like before but bothersome. Spent the wkend with grandkids outside... mainly at swimming pool; but also tennis and other stuff. My head started itching the second day, Sunday. I showered and shampooed but Monday and now, Tuesday, I am itching. I got a tiny bit of redness from the sun on my chest and back. I am now wondering if it is sun related because the itch doesn't seem to be on the parts of my body that were covered. I have the antihistimine prescription to take if it gets worse.

Rituxan and sun???

My platlets, on July 5, were at 57 which is great for me. So, the Rituxan seems to be working.

I guess it is possible you could be reacting to the sun due to Rituxian. Maybe have to try to protect yourself from the sun as much as possible and see if it clears up.

It sounds like the sun to me. I get the itching every year come spring right through the fall. I find using sunscreen and a big floppy hat helps (although that wouldn't help if playing tennis!!!!!) Maybe all the different meds in our systems makes us more vunerable to the suns rays. Just a thought anyway. Take Care, Christine :)

Forgot to say, I experienced itchiness with prednisone, Rituxin, IVIG and now Nplate. C :)
