Take Aciphex when using Prednisone was created by thuathien
Do we need to take Aciphex (to protect stomach) when we using prednisone? Now I take 10 mg Prednisone everyday, and I don't want to take Aciphex because this is a low dose of Prednisone. Furthermore Aciphex can affect to plalete count. Does anyone have any idea about this matter? Thank you for your response.

Some people take meds to protect their stomach and some do not. Are you having reflux or any other problem? If not, then you don't have to take anything.

Thank you Sandi! I don't have any problem with my stomach when I take prednisone. I will follow your advice--not taking Aciphex. Again thank you very much for your help. Have a good night.

  • Diagnosed in 2000, at 59, after being on moderately high doses of NSAIDs for arthritis. Splenectomy and rituxan both failed (2004). Did well on prednisone till summer 2018--then terrible reactions. Promacta since 11-19.

I assume you ARE taking (even a little) food when you take prednisone though.

I was told to take it as a precautionary measure as you won't know the pred is doing damage until it's too late and then you will have a problem curing it.

I worry about those spontaneous gastric bleeds that they warn you about since I take aspirin, high dose NSAID's and Prednisone daily. It's been 6 years of it and so far, I'm fine. But what's weird is that of all the doctors I have, not one has ever been concerned about it. I have been, but cannot add one more med to my mix.

It can be good for prevention if you take steroids long-term, but if it is causing counts to drop, you'll never get off of the steroids. What dose are you on?
