Pause (Medication to stop bleeding) was created by Madridista
Hi my platelet counts are pretty low(2k) and i am on cyclosporine right now but off late i have been noticing that every morning i find a bit of blood in my saliva . It seems to continue for a few minutes after i wake up but after washing up and eating some food i dont find any blood . There is no visible signs of bleeding and my doc has asked me to take a tablet called Pause which is supposed to stop bleeding . I wanted to check if any1 else has used this and what are the expected side effects

I see nobody has replied to your post so I thought I would even though I don't have much to say!

The drug Pause is a trade name for tranexamic acid which I had in liquid form when I was getting a lot of blood blisters in the mouth. Hard to say if it did any good because you don't know what it would have been like without it but it made me feel more secure. I didn't get any side effects although I didn't take it regularly, just did a swish and swallow with the stuff when I felt I needed it most. I loved the taste of the liquid. Tasted just like the acid drops I remember occasionally having as a child.

Ok, thanks for that Ann I didn't realise that Pause was Tranexamic Acid.

I have taken Tranexamic Acid in pill form, intravenously, and in drop form at different times. I haven't had any side effects.

I took it in pill form when my platelets were less then 10 and I had quite a lot of bleeding.

I was given tranexamic acid intravenously to try and stop a nose bleed that went on for 5 hours - again no side effects.

I was give tranexamic acid tablets to use in liquid form, to use as a mouth wash after oral surgery after - no side effects.

I hope this is of some help :)

also didnt know that pause was tranexamic acid. I am taking it and have no side effects from it and so far it has helped my bleeding symptoms. Even though im at 22 I am having more bleeding symptoms than what I had the last time I was under 10. I would have had bleeding in my mouth not sure where from and also had some light nose bleeds but the pills seem to have worked at reducing it. Hope it works for you and also that u dont get any side effects.

I must agree being on the tranexamic acid does make me a feel a litle bit more secure.

Hi Madridista,

I am sorry but I do not know your history, so I hope you don't mind me asking.....

Has your Dr discussed with you the new ITP medications Promacta/Revolade and N-Plate? I would seriously consider these before considering a splenectomy. Once your spleen is gone you are at greater risk of infection. Splenectomy success rates also decrease with age.

I am sorry if I am repeating what you already know, but I wish I had known what I know now when I allowed my spleen to be removed - I just took the Dr's word for it, and in my case success was very short lived.

I wish you the very best with your decision.

Vanessa
