Can anyone in AZ help? was created by Emy
Supposed to be flying home today...but bruising and petechie have me grounded. Does anyone in AZ know of the best route to get a quick CBC? or a friendly hematologist who would be willing to squeeze me in...Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Emy
I'm not in AZ, but if you already have a hemo following your case, can you call his/her office and ask for a AZ referral? Or your health plan? I don't think you'd be able to get a scrip for a place like Lab Corp or Quest Diagnostics from your regular doc--have to get it from one in that state? Hope you're flying soon! This is one of my hemoncs:

www.arizonaoncology.com/custom/Physician.aspx?physicianId=28

They have a lab onsite and can do a CBC in five minutes. Dunno whether they are accepting new patients currently.

And, if that doesn't work, send me a PM. My wife is a primary care doc -- she does not have a lab in her office, so (if she is even willing to do this, which I do not know, and she might be really upset at me for even suggesting this......) you might have to go to SonoraQuest or one of those labs, which takes overnight to get a count.

Thank you so much for your posts...

I ended up going the ER route which was definitely not quick, but they came back with a count of 6k and admitted me. At least I know I made the right decision to get things checked. Argh...if I was at home I know I'd refuse, lay low for a few days and possibly set up treatment with my hemo...but here it seems the quickest way to get back to a better count.

So now after almost 8 month of NO meds...I'm receiving IVIg and Solumedrol to hopefully boost me up enough to get home for the treatment conversation I know is waiting for me in MN. Still hopeful that it was the stomach virus I fought over the weekend that landed me here and that I will bounce back up on my own (after the iVig)

Just in case someone ever runs into this again. Our doctor is in one state and gives us reqs. for Lab Corp in another state all the time. We even have a standing order to go in anytime we feel the need to. So this can be done with no issue.

My wife said she'd be happy to help out, but sounds like the ER was the right call. If you happen to be at St. Joe's let me know and we can have an ITP party.

Thanks again everyone for the advice...I did make it home, leaving less than 24 hours after I talked myself out of the hospital with one dose of IviG and a count of 82k...(Wish I was at St.Joes, Gort...I would have definitely looked you up for an ITP party!)

Five days later I'm sitting at a count over 600k...Is it typical to have such a strong response? Not complaining...and definitely hoping I can get off of the Pred fast while still maintaining a higher count.
