Hi! I am new on here. My background: During my second pregnancy in 2009 bloodwork showed a low platelet count. Dr. assumed it was gestational ITP. I was monitored throughout that pregnancy and my levels stayed around 80,00. After having my baby, it never recovered, though, and I was officially diagnosed with ITP in March 2010 (with levels fluctuating around 25,000). I have since moved to Okinawa, Japan. I had bloodwork done in November and count was 49,000. Now it's Feb and I am 6 weeks pregnant. There is no hematologist at the Naval Hospital here and I am concerned about going through this pregnancy without being able to see the specialists I need.
My question is this: for those of you who were diagnosed before becoming pregnant, were you monitored by a hematologist throughout your pregnancy or just an OB? I am planning on fighting to be returned to the states where I can get the specialty care I need, but wanted to see how others got through their pregnancies.
