Hello,

i am new here. my wife just gave birth to baby girl @ 32 weeks 2.6lbs . Wife has ITP for 20+ years (since child). splenectomy done in childhood as well. count after spenectomy hover stable arround 40 without any medication. wife has APS as well when tested during pregnancy, however, it go away in the subsequence check. during pregnancy, wife's platelet howers between 12k - 20k with prednisolone. wife has no symphom of bleeding/peteche with this count. only oncee happened at 12k and she was treated with dexamethasone for 5 days.

baby born with severe count of 5k. after several round of platelet, ivig, and prednisolone, count raise to 8k within 5 days. baby has brain bleed. we tried apheresis platelet infusion last night.

questions:
is there any other way to help the baby?
is there any relationship between ITP mom with NAIT? (neonatal alloimune). doctor seems to think that baby was hit with NAIT or FAIT (Foetal alloimmune).

thanks all.

Icoh - I'm sorry to hear about the baby. I hope she recovers soon.

Some of the problems that your wife and baby have are beyond our knowledge. It sounds like they are doing everything they can for the baby.

I just went through a similar situation with my son. he was born with a count of 14k, however he was 38 weeks and we did not have the challeng of a brain bleed. I have only been diagnosed with ITP for 6 years now. my heart goes out to you and your family. hang in there with the treatments and have paitence. My son is a month old and just last week took a huge turn for the better. It takes a while for their bodies to take over, thought it would never happen for us. wish there was more for me to offer than that....
