Preparing for Delivery was created by tigereyes
Saw the OB today and we are starting to prepare for delivery. At 36 weeks I will start IVIG and steriods. My hema is worried that I may go into labor early and doesnt want to risk my counts being too low to deliver. Right now Im at 40 and none of the doctors are happy with that for delivery. Tomorrow I will be 31 weeks and Im starting to get nervous. I have just been putting off and now well I cant its almost here.

That went really fast (for me)! Are you getting excited - other than worrying about your counts?

Fast is an understatment! It flew by. Im more nervous about the actual delivery then the counts. I know IVIG will get them up--but actual childbirth scares me. Getting ready to move soon so once that is done I can rest--well as much as one can. My little boy will be here in about 8 weeks.

Jennifer - don't fear delivery. It's really not that bad. I had one child with a 23 hours labor, no drugs, no epidural, plus Pitocin and made it just fine. Granted, it was a looong day but the second I saw that baby, everything faded. Make sure you have a good coach and breathe. My husband would watch the monitor and tell me when a contraction was coming and I'd just breathe. She was my most difficult labor.

My son was born an hour after I got to the hospital. No time for drugs that time, not that I wanted any.

I guess just typical first time mom jitters. On top of all this we are moving. So busy this is not what I had planned at 8 months pregnant. But it has to be done right?

tigereyes, when is your due date? My huz and I have 0 experience with low platelets prior to this but we were thinking once my counts got high enough (currently 9,000 at 26 weeks)they would do a c/s (I had a c/s with my 1st born AND I have a low lying placenta for this one...) Are you planning a natural birth? Congratulations BTW.

Sandi,
Yes its HUGE compared to what we have. We actually have a dining room. I have my crib and the bedding ( I couldnt wait) but thats it. My shower is in 2 weeks and Im hoping to get the rest of the stuff we need. We cant really afford to buy much of anything right now. Saving for when Im out on leave.

I am planning on a natural birth. Its a faster healing time, I can do a natural birth with counts around 50 but I want the option for drugs so I need to be around 100.

Getting closer, I was told I was going to be induced at 38 weeks thats March 26th

I am 26 weeks (6.5 months) and due May 30. I'm so nervous about this whole process and the idea of having a c-section has me really freaked out. Thanks for your help tigereyes.

Any reason why they want to do a c section? Do you see a high risk OB? At first they thought they wanted me to do a c section as well, then as my pregnancy progressed they decieded that I can do a natural birth--I asked and they have all agreed to let me try. I will have to do IVIG, steriods and tranfussions. The transfussions will be during delivery since I will be activly bleeding but I have all the confidence in my doctors that they will do whats be for me and my son. If there is any stress on the baby they will do an emergency c sections--another reason I wanted my counts above 100. I cannont get a spinal below that. Ive already contacted the anastesiologist on call the at hosital and this is what I was told. So it is just for back up. If you dont see a high risk ob it might be worth looking into. Just make sure your OB and hematologist have privaliges(sp) at the hospital your delivering at. You dont want to get there and be in labor and discover your hema cannot treat you there. And have to start all over with a new hema who doesnt know your history.

I hope this helps and try not to be nervous its bad for the baby. Take it one day at a time. I go for weekly visits and blood draws but its not really that bad. As long as your not bleeding and the baby is healthy you have nothing to worry about.

tigereyes~ you have been really helpful in this stressful time  thank you

My OB referred me to a Hema at a bigger hospital. The hospitals are affiliated but not sure if either doc practices off their main site. I have not yet been referred to a high risk OB but am due to see my regular OB next Fri 3/4/11 (ultrasound, prenatal visit and glucose test) and intend to discuss that with her. A high risk OB would be at the same facility as my Hematologist.

My son was delivered via c/s after I failed to dilate. I was planning to deliver this little guy the same way but and as it turns out I have placenta previa this time so unless the placenta moves off my cervix there is no other way out.

I have read here that Prednisone elevates glucose levels...prob gonna add diabetes to the list...ahhh...

I am a very sunny person and this really hasn't gotten the best of me. I take it as it comes and have faith in my health care team.
