Worried, can ITP come back???

When my daughter was diagnosed last year at 1 years old with ITP I was told that even though they might stabilize her platelet levels for the time being at any time they can dropped again over night. And to just keep an eye on her. While in the hospital I did a lot of research and read that a viral or bacteria infections could be the cause of ITP and at that time she had just had a really bad one that was off and on again for a while. I was told when they discharged her to not let her get an fever over 101. She is now sick again with some kind of viral infection that I am terrified is going to make her platelets drop again. Ive been trying to keep her temp down but if a viral infection is what caused it the first time what is the likely hood of them dropping again. I don't want to see my poor Baby go through why she went through all over again.

Yes, it is true that any type of infection, medication or vaccine could cause counts to drop again. It is also possible that it won't happen. There is no way to predict it or prevent it. All you can do is take things as they come and try not to worry. It's a good sign that the ITP seemed to be acute the last time. Sometimes it can last months or years.
