Whenever my son goes to the beach, his platelets drop significantly and he gets large swatches of petechia. Has anyone else ever had this response?
Also, has anyone had it where there platelets never go above 20k? My son has had it for 2 years and is almost always at 18k.

A weary mom :)

i have never heard of that but maybe it has something to do with heat. or maybe sunburn? my mum used to always say my counts were better in winter

I recently went to the beach and accidentally missed a place of sunscreen on my leg. It burned like crazy, but afterward it turned into a patch of petechia.

Never had that happen before.

My platelets are rarely above 20k, but I'm an adult so I don't know how comforting that is for you!

i have had that also, my friendan i were at the beach all day both our legs got really sunburnt and i had what i thought was petichiae but then my friend who also was burnt had the exact same thing on her legs it waasnt itchy or anything like a rash it was petichiae like under the skin, once the sunburn went brown the spots disappeard, so it could be petichiae but i think anyone could get it becasue sunburn is damaging to the skin it could probanly break little blood vessels in anyone but maybe it's more common for people with itp, mind you our legs were VERY burnt we had forgot to use sunscreen on our legs so we hadnt put any sunscreen on our legs at all, and the heat was 40C/104F
