Hi Dru!

I am pretty good! I have been working an awful lot lately but it is going well. My youngest daughter has set her wedding date for September 13, she got engaged at Christmas. I warned him, but would he listen to me? Ohhhh no! B) She is a daddy's girl and I am happy for her. I have fallen in love with Ball Room Dancing! I am thinking about trying to go competitive down the road in the Latin Dances. I am still running and biking. I think the prednisone effects are starting to leave me, finally! I am losing some weight now. Not near enough but improving. Take it from me, men are vain! LOL I go back to my oncologist in a few weeks for a check up. I feel good, a little sluggish from the weight gain, but good. My knee has finally quit swelling when I run on it but the RA is getting to be something of an issue. I am thinking of a summer marathon then calling quits on the long distance running. We shall see. Not too much else to report other than work stuff, but thank you for asking!

How are you? Whats new with the kids and all? Have you gotten all the snow we have here in Indiana? And, the most important thing, are your bridges all open? LOL

Hey Jeffrey,
Have been wondering where you got to.
Pleased you're keeping busy & happy. A wedding to look forward to as well, that's wonderful!

VERY hot here this week - trying not to have to go far. Hopefully a swim & tea on the beach later.

Mj!

You are killing me! We have snow everywhere! It is about 7 feet on each side of my drive way. We are supposed to have another foot of snow on Tuesday. How is your garden doing? The wedding will be fun. I like her fiancé very much. Nice guy, a Mechanical Engineer. How is your husband and the grandkids doing?

44 C here today (111 F) !!!
There is a nice long beach near here you can drive on. We had a swim & light meal with a cider watching the sun set. We were the only ones there as holidays have finished & visitors returned home. The garden is coping well with recycled water & pots under cover.
Family all well - expecting another grandie mid March. This week one started school, twins started kindy, another had the tooth fairy come for the first time & another about to take his first steps. I can hardly keep up.

Glad you are doing well, Jeff! Very nice about your daughter getting married too!

We had a couple big snow storms and it has been cold, warmer this weekend so took my limpy dog for a nice walk. That is about the extent of my exercise other than chasing preschoolers around at work.

I can't imagine you as "sluggish"...ballroom dancing, biking, running, makes me exhausted just thinking about it!

Hi Jeffrey,

Glad you are doing well and congratulations on your daughter's upcoming wedding!!

I wanted to ask you a question about when you had your surgery a while back. Did it cause your platelets to go down at all? I'm scheduled for surgery (actually today) and am worried about the platelets going back down. I've had a rotator cuff tear for about a year (and it is getting worse!). Just wondering your thought. And, I know how active you are...

Thanks!

Hey Dee Dee.... Just my two cents worth here.... I had two surgeries when my counts where in the 90k mark and both times the counts went up... The days after the surgery counts went to the 160 mark.
Good luck for today and so so good to talk to you again.

Dede

I had IVIG and it got me through the surgery. My counts then went promptly down! I am still stable but at around 20k. I don't think it was an issue with my counts. I did seem to heal a little slower but the damage in my knee was considerable. The only other thing they could have done for me was a replacement.

You will be fine! Let me know how it goes when you feel like it! I have a tear in my right one from swimming.

Take care! Wishing you well!

Jeff

Thanks Milly and Jeffrey!

I had surgery on Tuesday and everything went fine so far (except being able to type!)
I have a sling contraction on my right arm and am not able to type very well. My platelets did go down right before surgery, but were still safe. I will get them checked in another week. I,ve been in so much pain that I needed to do something! My ortho doctor said his platelets are about 80,000 and he has never had ITP. Thanks for all your replies! Will let you know how it goes on the platelets.

That's something I don't understand.... My dad always has low platelets (70 to 80k) but the doctors say he doesn't have ITP either.... How do they decide the difference

Milly,
I was wondering the same thing. It would seem that there would be a pre-disposition for ITP to happen--especially in my doctor who is only 46. Your dad has made it through most of his life...he should be fine.

Yeah he is 76 and other wise pretty healthy, it's just interesting on what's Itp and what's low platelets.... Maybe someone will have an answer

I think the only difference is that no one ever bothered to give them a diagnosis. We've had people here with platelets in the 70k to 100k range. They have never treated and just monitor their counts. It's just considered to be 'mild' ITP.

Sandy, that definition sounds about right. I think my doctor does worry about his platelets. He didn't share this information until the day of surgery and I told him about my concern. I don't think he knows a lot about ITP, and especially that someone with ITP can literally "crash". He didn't know that this could happen.

I think I helped open his eyes a little bit. Maybe one day he will read up on it a little more.

Hey everyone! I hope you are doing well! This winter has been brutal! I hope you are all staying warm and cozy. My counts have been really good on Promacta!

Jeffrey- congrats in your daughter getting married! How exciting!

My big news is I am moving back to the southwest at the end of April! ( Phoenix) specifically. If anyone wants to visit next winter, we will have an extra room if you don't mind my dogs.

Glad that you are doing well and that you are making a big move. I do like Arizona. We go to visit Sedona and Prescott--actually are going at the end of June. We've been to Phoenix, too.

It does beat those harsh winters, but it does get hot in the summer!

Good luck on your big move.
