Jack, I just found a Turtles Greatest Hits CD today! I also downloaded The Dave Clark 5 Greatest Hits! Too much fun! I am also a fan of Cream (early Clapton for you youngsters!) and many more! I still like it loud and driving. It makes me smile.....

The Turtles! Ahhhhh. My favorite Turtles era was when Flo & Eddie (Mark Volman & Howard Kaylan) and Pons joined Frank Zappa's 'Mothers Of Invention' around 1971 or so. The rendition of 'Happy Together' on the album 'Filmore East - June 1971' is just way too freakin cool.
Okay, I may be one of the few people on the planet who has never cared much for Eric Clapton. Although I like Cream's stuff. Oops.....I do admit that I cannot stand their extremely boring rendition of the classic Willie Dixon song 'Spoonful'. No one did 'Spoonful' like Chester Burnett, aka Howlin Wolf (with Hubert Sumlin on guitar). Simplistic, but not boring.

Eric Clapton has a house fairly near mine. Yep, his current wife is from the next suburb over and he keeps a home there. As a result, Clapton's father-in-law was part owner of the best Blues club ever in this city. I played there a couple of times in 2008/2009. Unfortunately, it was converted into one of those shiny 'whoo-girl/late-night-club' things a couple of years ago when that neighborhood changed into more of a Millennial hipster area.

I think you are the only person! Have you ever listened to Backless? It's really blusey, one of my favorites. Promises is my favorite from that album/CD. Sounds like it would be (or should be) right up your alley.

I realize Clapton is/was very popular. I've owned most of what he's done over the years...from 1963 Yardbirds onward. I've played/sung a lot of his popular stuff over the years (over and over and over again). I just don't care for him much, never have. I tend to prefer the original versions of some of the songs Clapton made popular; like JJ Cale's original version of 'Cocaine' (not to be confused with Cash's or Browne's songs by the same title). Or Marley's original 'I Shot The Sheriff', or any Robert Johnson song done by anyone other than Clapton.
I much preferred the Yardbirds with Jimmy Page or Jeff Beck on lead guitar.
Loved The Bluesbreakers....but liked them better with Peter Green on lead guitar.

But I DO KNOW that I am in the tiny minority.

Just as I am in the tiny tiny minority who prefer the first 'Fleetwood Mac' albums with Peter Green (or even Bob Welch)! Oops! I also preferred the original 'Buckingham Nicks' LP to their later stuff with Fleetwood Mac.

And here is another shocker....I've never cared for Sir Paul McCartney at all either. :blink:

Funny you should bring up Lindsey Buckingham. I was going to mention him. He is one hell of an underrated guitar player, imo. As far as Buckingham Nicks, have you ever heard Frozen Love or, my absolute favorite, Sorcerer. Stevie redid that song with Sheryl Crow but it didn't come close to the version with Lindsey. I can sing a bit myself and Sorcerer is a good one for me.

I do love Fleetwood Mac though, saw them twice and it was one hell of a show. Tusk gave me chills.

'Frozen Love' is from the original 'Buckingham Nicks' LP....as was 'Crystal'.
I've bought that album several times over the years....I currently have it on vinyl.

It's a good one.

Best vocal Male? I am very undecided here, but Freddy Mercury is timeless.

Best vocal Female? Linda Rhonstadt! Not so much from the Stone Pony days but when she did the hat box series with Nelson Riddle OMG! Also when she did the Pirates of Penzan (sp?) Stellar vocal and appearance.

Blues I gotta go with Johnny Lang. Just sayin.....

Next question who have you seen in concert? Where, and when?

I'm tossed between Stevie Nicks and Ann Wilson. Linda Ronstadt is definitely up there though.

Men - Dave Gahan and Justin Hayward.

I just had a Heart disc out! Gotta love Ms. Wilson! Also, I must add Annie Lennox and Juice Newton. Juice Newton's Break it to Me Gently is classic. I did a little rearranging of it for my youngest daughter to sing in competition. Never lost with it....

Male overall vocals, probably (now that I reflect) will probably have to go with Harry Connick Jr. Just for the fact that many people get me and him mixed up.... hehe

First real concert was Chicago in the early 70's. Rock and roll, A fifth of Southern Comfort, and a 62 Austin Healy! I was led astray! It was an outdoor concert and I am grinning ear to ear thinking of it now. I have seen quite a few others. Best seat I ever had was for Seals and Croft. Front row in a 500 seat venue. Diamond Girl.... Draft card said 1A for 2 years, it was an exciting time. Boones Farm was the drink of choice and girls with layered hair were eye catchers. I had so much to learn!

Have to say never really liked Linda Ronstadt for a female singer I'd go with Karen Carpenter.

SARS Stock (full day concert over 400,000 in attendance) with the following: "Have Love Will Travel Revue ( Dan Aykroyd and James Belushi), Sam Roberts, Kathleen Edwards, La Chicane, The Tea Party, The Flaming Lips, Sass Jordan, The Isley Brothers, and Blue Rodeo. Justin Timberlake, The Guess Who, Rush, AC/DC, and The Rolling Stones".

Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Rush (for a second time), April Wine, David Wilcox, The Trews, and Burton Cummings.

There is that female singer who sang on TV + + + + times a day! Made famous for singing a comercial for an amuzement park. Suzie McNeil famous lyrics "Everyone Loves Marineland"

Not a concert but have to add this one - I saw Paul Stanley from KISS play the phantom in the Opera "Phantom of the Opera".

The best bass guitarist ever is my older son - he is fantastic!!!

All of this is reminding me of my father in law, may he rest in peace - never could call him on a Saturday evening, think 6pm his time, because he was watching reruns of The Lawrence Welk Show.

My concerts; SCR, Chicago, Kenny Rogers and the First Edition, Shaka Kahn and Rufus (actually set with them on a flight to Denver too! Pretty good day!), Captain and Tonnille, Seals and Croft, Manheim STeamroller, Stomp, Harry Conick Jr., Daughrty, Linda Rhonstadt. I am sure I have missed some.

Musicals, Phantom, Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Mamma Mia, Gypsy, Carrosel, Little Women, Music Man, Footloose, Chicago, The Wiz, Jeckel and Hyde, I know I have forgotten several. Anyway I love the theater! Rent! Miss Siagon. I know there are many more.

Groups we have missed: The Doors, Iron Butterfly, Steppenwolf, Eric Burden and the Animals, The Who, soooo many good ones!

Melinda and the rest of you, where are your pics at??? LOL And you know you have music you remember!

Concerts: Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, Beatles and the great Jimi Hendrix. I went to concerts in Hyde Park, Isle of Wight (before they headed to Glastonbury) Where you could get "high" on the clouds of second hand smoke from "weed". Or what is the correct word, if there is one, of today? I know I am dating myself. Trying to be more sedate now - it's hard!!! :laugh:

You have seen concerts that I would die to see! Hendrix! Beatles! OMG! I know nothing of the "smoke" thing though. I heard about it once........ :evil: Sedate is for other people!

I had a little pity party for me this week but I am good now. Sedate is what I plan to be in about 30 years! Don't surrender!
