  • Take a look on the Amgen site, I'm their "poster girl", if you will, for Nplate. It's kind of a nice video, probably tells my story as well as I could here.

Just home from ER AGAIN. I am beyond frustrated. The gut thing hit around 1:20am, I spent an hour trying some trigger point stuff working on my Psoas muscle as recommended by my new chiropractor before things began to really deteriorate, and eventually at around 3:30 we woke up my visiting brother-in-law and all headed to ER. Jim had to take him to the train station for a 7:30 train home to NYC this morning, so that was very special having an audience of a male in-law to witness me spending several hours doubled up, screaming and crying in pain. A shot of morphine and a shot of dilauded later and I passed out and woke up fine. ARGH. HUGELY frustrated. Sandi, you're right, they've got to be missing something because something is VERY wrong.

OPM.

Anyway in brief, what I said was that when I had gut wrenching pain it turned out to be caused by an allergy/sensitivity to something.. first time it was lager.. is that beer in the US.. and second time to the drug lansoprazole. Both times the ingestion and reaction was hours and hours apart so really difficult to track down. And I still don't know exactly what I'm allergic/sensitive to as none of it makes any sense.

Hi Ann- I just did the same thing, lost a big post reply. Argh.

Anyway, this has hit before, during, after meals, hours away from food, it hit three weeks in to a four week trip to China when NOTHING I ate bore any resemblance to my "normal" diet, I kept a food diary for months and of course it never hit then, but then when I stopped the diary and it did hit, I hadn't been eating anything that I hadn't eaten while I was keeping the diary. It doesn't seem to be a food allergy or sensitivity... but it has to be something. While I was at UVA Hospital a few weeks ago I spoke to one of the big head guys at their allergy clinic and we discussed my case at length, he sees nothing in the pattern or the various test results to lead him to think it's any sort of allergy. I am flat out of ideas. For the first 6-7 years when this only hit 1-2x yearly it wasn't a huge deal, but I've been in and out of ER twenty times in the last 2 months and spent two weeks hospitalized. I want answers!! They've done two each of colonoscopy and endoscopy, i swallowed a camera pill, had numerous CT scans, MRI's, MRA, ultrasound, x-rays, small bowel follow through, the test where you eat radioactive stew and then they x-ray you every half hour or so 'til the food has passed your stomach... my GI doc has thrown up his hands and says "Go to UVA", the UVA docs said "we can't find anything", Mayo Clinic won't take my insurance, Duke isn't interested, and at this point half the ER docs think I'm just a junky coming in to try and get morphine. One pr*ck even put that in my records, that he thinks I'm either faking the pain to get meds or the pain is from withdrawal to my addiction. GREAT, just what I want in my medical records. Idiot.
