From Taekwondo Champion to ITP Fighter - 10 year old Renata's Strength Shines Through

Renata

Hello, my name is Renata, I’m 10 years old, and got diagnosed with immune thrombocytopenia on February.

It’s been a drastic change in my life since I’m very active, from practicing a contact sport (taekwondo) and winning championships to just do basic training. I never felt sick or have any other symptoms but red spots in my body and face after a tournament, my parents took me to the doctor and they did a blood work, my platelets count were 3K. I was hospitalized for the following week with medication, and they went up to 30K.

After 3 weeks I got more blood work and my platelets dropped again to 3K. I was hospitalized, but after that my platelets are now at 10K.

My advice to other patients is to always be aware of every change your body may have, and always follow your doctor's directions for a speedy and healthy recovery. I hope everyone who is battling this disease gets better and healthy!
